8617 Steam Engine

This heavy die-cast metal engine is a nice addition to a collection if only because of the yellow trim painting that makes it easy to follow on a multi-train layout. It's too bad the paint has seen this much wear, chipped on both sides. It also looks like there was a cowcatcher at one time. On the right side, the NKP lettering is still intact (see photos below.) There is a computer wafer board visible inside the boiler, so I'll have to see if it has sound next time I have it on the track. The 8050-T Tender that goes with this engine is in excellent shape and has a really neat "chuffing" system using beads within the tender.
