The books list the 8040
2-4-2 steam engine as being produced with the Nickel Plate roadname in
1970-72. They also list an uncatalogued example produced in 1971 as the
Canadian National 2-4-2. My train has no markings to indicate which of
the two it would be. I had this on the track the other day to make sure
it was in running order. Works just fine, but is from the era of engines
before the absolute smooth "computerized" operation so it seemed to work
harder to zip around the track. The plastic body shell is considerably
lighter than its die-cast cousins, but the works are very clean and
well-kept (see photo below.) There also is a traction-assisting band on
one of the main drive wheels. |
